The village of Lax Klan, also know as Kitkatla, is on Dolphin Island, 60 kilometers south of Prince Rupert, BC and can be reached by boat or float plane. The village has been occupied for over 10,000 years and is currently home to 450 Gitxaala citizens.

The Gitxaała, also known as Git Lax M’oon, people of the saltwater are one of the most ancient societies on the coast. The village of Lach Klan (Kitkatla, BC) has been continuously inhabited since time immemorial.

Gitxaała hereditary leaders from the four clans, Gisputwada, Ganhada, Lax’sgiik and Laxgibuu, manage and protect their territories and resources according to their ayaawx, traditional laws. Gitxaała harvesters use almost 100 different marine and terrestrial resources to feed their community. Gitxaała citizens, currently numbering 2094, wherever they reside, celebrate their history, practice their traditions, respect their laws, and cherish their lands, waters and resources.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Housing Manager, this position supports the housing department with administrative tasks to ensure accurate records are kept for rental payments and ensure tasks are completed as directed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES

  • Data entry for band rentals, social housing
  • Keeping Rental Payment Spreadsheets up to date
  • Answering and logging telephone calls
  • Scheduling meetings and/or walk-throughs for clients
  • Confirm bookings for contractor units
  • Checking guests into contractor units (including after hours and weekends based on arrival)
  • Show up on time and show continuous effort.
  • Filing and archiving files
  • General duties relating to Housing
  • Coordinate correspondence, including mail, fax, email, and other communications as required.
  • Assist in coordinating purchases by way of purchase orders for materials or supplies.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Administrative assistant or equivalent experience.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping training/experience is considered an asset.
  • Understand and comply with privacy legislation.
  • Knowledge of computer usage to be able to prepare various materials and reports using MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Good understanding of meeting software to set-up meetings, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply data security, management, backup, and storage best practices.
  • General mathematics skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to understand to carry out instructions in written and verbal form.
  • Accountability and dependability.
  • Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Understand local indigenous rights and history.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • WHMIS certification preferred.

Rate

$17.40 – $20.00 depending on experience
40 hours/week
