We are pleased to announce that Gitxaała Nation will undertake an Election Code review process, with the intent of engaging our Citizens on determining support for proposed amendments to the Gitxaała Nation Custom Election (2015).
This 2024 Gitxaała Nation Custom Election Code Draft review process has begun and will conclude on or about August 23, 2024. Any proposed amendments to the election code will be brought forward for our Citizens to approve/reject through a Ratification Vote in the fall/winter this year.
All Citizens are invited to provide input in various ways including surveys, meetings (in person and virtual), and working group sessions. All members are encouraged to participate in one or all of these sessions. Participation is voluntary and no compensations will be provided and will be facilitated by the Ratification Officer.
It is important to note that nothing has been pre-determined – this process is just beginning. Any final decision with regard the considering any proposed amendments to the 2024 Gitxaała Nation Custom Election Code Draft will first be approved in principle by Governing Council and then decided by our Citizens through a formal Ratification process.
Community Engagement Meetings are being scheduled for July 2024.
