The Opportunity

The Gitxaala Territorial Management Agency is seeking part-time community liaison staff located in Lach Klan. Working with the existing team of experienced staff, the community liaison staffs will help with increasing the territorial management agencies community outreach and communication and serves as a key point of first connection with community members.

About Us

The Gitxaala Territorial Management Agency plays a lead role in asserting and maintaining the rights of Gitxaala Nation, in the course of making informed decisions for the utilization, management, protection, and enhancement of the Nation’s resources. Gitxaala Nation’s territory covers a larger portion of the North Coast of what is now called British Columbia, and the Territorial Management Agency is a community-driven organization dedicated to the preservation and sustainable management of the environmental, cultural and economic resources in Gitxaala territory.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the GTMA Director, the Community Liaison and Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring clear, respectful, and meaningful communication between the organization and the community. This position supports the development and distribution of community communications, helps organize and support community meetings and events, and acts as a bridge between staff and community members. The ideal candidate will be organized, approachable, and grounded in community knowledge and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

· Community Liaison and Outreach

o Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, Elders, and youth to support inclusive engagement.

o Serve as a point of contact for community questions and feedback related to stewardship programs, events, and initiatives.

o Attend community events and gatherings to share information and gather input as needed.

· Event Planning and Support

o Assist in organizing and coordinating logistics for community events, such as open houses, feasts, workshops, and meetings.

o Ensure materials and equipment are prepared and venues are set up appropriately.

o Provide on-the-ground support during events, including welcoming participants, taking notes, or assisting Elders and guests.

· Collaborative Work

o Coordinate closely with communications, stewardship, and administrative staff to ensure consistent messaging and inclusive outreach.

o Support staff with feedback from the community to improve program design and delivery.

o Maintain a calendar of engagement activities and communication deliverables.

Qualifications:

· Experience in communications, public engagement, or event coordination.

· Familiarity with stewardship, environmental, or governance programs is an asset.

· Knowledge of Gitxaała culture and protocols

· Strong understanding of the local community, culture, values, and communication styles.

· Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort speaking in public or facilitating small groups.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Hourly Rate: $ CAD 20.00 – 28.00 an hour based on level of experience.
