ABOUT US

Gitxaała territories stretch from the Nass River to Aristazabel Island, on the north coast of what is now British Columbia.

The Gitxaała , also known as Git Lax M’oon, people of the saltwater  are one of the most ancient societies on the coast. The village of Lach Klan (Kitkatla, BC) has been continuously inhabited since time immemorial.

Gitxaała hereditary leaders from the four clans, Gisputwada, Ganhada, Lax’sgiik and Laxgibuu, manage and protect their territories and resources according to their ayaawx, traditional laws. Gitxaała harvesters use almost 100 different marine and terrestrial resources to feed their community. Gitxaała citizens, currently numbering 2094, wherever they reside, celebrate their history, practice their traditions, respect their laws, and cherish their lands, waters and resources.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Receptionist supports the Administration office to deliver efficient and effective services and programs to the Nation. The Receptionist is the first point of contact at the Band office for community members, staff and visiting professionals requesting assistance to purchase ferry tickets, gas sales and other related administrative tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES

  • Coordinate correspondence including mail, fax, email, and other communications as required.
  • Assist to coordinate purchases by way of purchase orders for materials or supplies.
  • Understand and comply with privacy legislation.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the Nation.
  • Represent the Nation and its interest to stakeholders through professional appearance and courteous behaviour.

Relationship Building and Teamwork

  • Maintain composure and perspective in difficult situations and in managing conflict.
  • Help foster strong working relationships within and external to the Nation in a respectful manner.

Client Service and Engagement

  • Handle inquiries and requests for information in a respectful, professional manner.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, cultural awareness, and sensitivity, including the ability to integrate First Nations cultural principles and protocols into service delivery.
  • Must follow Nations Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain Confidentiality at all times.
  • other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as by the supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Administrative Assistant or equivalent experience.
  • Firm knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
  • General mathematical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization and its executive team.
  • Ability to understand to carry out instructions in written or verbal form.
  • Ability to adjust to meet changing work needs and demands.
  • Strong Customer service focus.
  • Ability to work with vulnerable persons.
  • Accountability and Dependability.
  • Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Understand Gitxaala Nation’s culture, language and values including the Sm’algyax culture

Salary

$20 – $25/hr
based on education, training and experience
