The Major Stock Areas in The Prince Rupert District which includes KITKATLA INLET will be CLOSED to All Commercial Herring Fisheries to support stock rebuilding.
There will be no Commercial Roe Fishery and no Commercial Roe on Kelp fishery. There are no restrictions on the Gitxaala harvest of herring and roe on kelp. However, please be mindful that Kitkatla inlet stocks are recovering slowly and we should still be careful not to overfish.
The DFO test boat will be doing Tonnage Estimations in the Kitkatla Inlet, Gitxaala Fisheries will be working with that test boat. The Test boat is scheduled to be in the area from March 15-28, 2022.
Gitxaala Guardians will be monitoring the Inlet and collecting information about the timing and locations of spawn.
