Lach Klan School, in the Gitxaała Nation, is seeking a School Maintenance Manager whose primary responsibilities will be to ensure the safety and functionality of school facilities. This includes performing repairs, conducting regular inspections and maintaining equipment and systems to ensure they meet standards for students, staff and visitors. Attention to detail, technical skills and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this role.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Performing routine maintenance tasks such as repairing locks, painting walls, and fixing leaky faucets.
• Ensuring that the school premises are clean and free from hazards.
• Performing landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns and trimming bushes.
• Operating and maintaining equipment and tools used in maintenance work.
• Identifying and reporting major repair needs to the appropriate authority.
• Assisting in the planning and execution of school renovation projects.
• Keeping track of inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
• Coordinating with school staff to ensure that maintenance work does not disrupt classes or other school activities.

Qualities and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• Proven experience as a maintenance worker, preferably in a school setting.
• Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and fixing leaks.
• Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy equipment and perform manual labour.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and complete them efficiently.
• Good communication skills to interact with school staff, students, and parents in a professional manner.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school schedules and emergencies.

Lach Klan School

The Gitxaała, also known as Git Lax Mo’on, people of the salt water, is one of the most ancient societies on the Northwest coast. The community has a population of approximately 300 people. Health and wellness guide a variety of community initiatives, often including Lach Klan School. Our school includes preschool to grade 12 and currently serves around 80 students. We are located just over 45km south of Prince Rupert and accessible by boat and seaplane. The area is home to a wide variety of animal and sea life, a multitude of islands, and breathtaking views. This area is abundant with opportunities for an outdoor enthusiast.
