Health | Full-Time | Receptionist

ABOUT US
Gitxaała territories stretch from the Nass River to Aristazabel Island, on the north coast of what is now British Columbia. The Gitxaała, also known as Git Lax M’oon, people of the saltwater are one of the most ancient societies on the coast. The village of Lach Klan (Kitkatla, BC) has been continuously inhabited since time immemorial.Gitxaała hereditary leaders from the four clans, Gisputwada, Ganhada, Lax’sgiik and Laxgibuu, manage and protect their territories and resources according to their ayaawx, traditional laws. Gitxaała harvesters use almost 100 different marine and terrestrial resources to feed their community. Gitxaała citizens, currently numbering 2094, wherever they reside, celebrate their history, practice their traditions, respect their laws, and cherish their lands, waters and resources.

SUMMARY
The Health Receptionist is primarily responsible for answering phones, managing confidential patient information through directing calls or email messages. The Health Receptionist reports to the Director of Health and Social Development and is the first to greet Citizens into the Health Center.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES

Strategic and Operational Planning

  • Support and provide strategic vision in the development and implementation of the Health and Wellness Plan.
  • Work within the Gitxaała Nation’s Financial Law.
  • Assist with establishing key performance indicators/for the position in order to measure effectiveness of the position.

Relationship Building and Teamwork

  • Must understand and practice privacy and confidentiality including safety procedures for the work environment.
  • Establish and foster strong working relationships within and external to the Nation through team activities, personal leadership, ad professional incentives.
  • Support the direction on priorities and responsibilities for Health department staff, contractors, volunteers, and others under your department.
  • Foster an independent work ethic.
  • Maintain composure and perspective in difficult situations and in managing conflict.
  • Model and enforce the policies and procedures of the Nation.
  • Represent the Nation and its interest to stakeholders through professional appearance and courteous behavior.

Health Service and Engagement

  • Handle inquiries and requests for information in a respectful, professional, and client-centric manner.
  • Support and demonstrate a community-focused approach in standards and operational procedures as well as in program and service design and delivery.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of and ability to integrate First Nations cultural principles and protocols into health service delivery and demonstrate strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Must follow Nations Code of Ethics, Personnel Policy, social media Policy and Nation’s Laws including By law 1.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Pleasant phone voice.
  • Understand and comply with privacy legislation and duty to report to immediate Supervisor.
  • Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality.
  • Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer, photocopier, faxing, emailing literacy.
  • Prepare various materials using MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Zoom).
  • Coordinate correspondence including mail, fax, email.
  • As required, support purchases and inventory management including gathering quotes, requisitions and ordering of office materials or supplies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (attached document).
