Position: Trainee Craft Baker
Location: Saltwater Bakery, Prince Rupert BC
Start date: As soon as possible
Hours: Full-time Wednesday-Sunday, 5:00 AM- 1:PM

Background
Saltwater Bakery + Provisions is a newly opened craft bakery and food hub located in Cow Bay, Prince
Rupert B.C. The business is a venture of Gitxaala Enterprises, the proud business arm of the Gitxaala
Nation. Saltwater Bakery has quickly become a vibrant community hub and we are looking to expand our
team to include a trainee baker.

Qualifications/Requirements: An interest in food production and working with your hands, experience
in a commercial kitchen or other food facility an asset. Basic math skills and good communication are
important.

• Current FoodSafe Level 1 Required
• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent required
• Must be able to lift 50lbs
• Must be fluent in speaking and writing English
• Must be physically able to carry out the duties of the job
• Legally allowed to work in Canada
  
  *A valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset due to early start times.

Job Description
As trainee baker, you will work alongside the Head Baker learning traditional craft baking skills, and
producing quality, healthy breads and baked goods for our community. Bakery work involves early
mornings (shifts as early as 5am), and production is dependent on punctuality and strong time
management and prioritization skills. Bakers need to be observant and detail oriented, recipes need to
be accurately followed, and basic arithmetic skills are essential.

Workplace safety and food safety are paramount. The work of a baker involves both heavy lifting and
repetitive motions, and you must be able to clearly demonstrate how to safely accomplish these tasks.
You will be trained on how to safely operate all bakery equipment and tools, which must be strictly
followed at all times. Food Safe procedures will be trained and must be adhered to, and the facility is to
be kept at a high degree of cleanliness at all times.

Although past experience is not required, your suitability for this position is demonstrated by past work
experience in a restaurant, work camp kitchen, or other food production operation, or participation in a
culinary training course or program. An interest in creating food with your hands is essential. Supported
formal training leading to a Baker Red Seal or Baker Certificate may be available to the right candidate.

Compensation: $18.50/hour
